Learn how to manually influence how the Depict algorithm prioritizes groups of products on your site

Introduction

At Depict, we believe in minimizing manual work for e-commerce teams through automation. However, there are times when you might want to manually influence product prioritization. Enter Boost and Bury — our easy-to-use feature that allow you to influence how Depict's algorithm prioritizes showing groups of products on your site. In this article, we'll show you how to leverage Boost and Bury via the Depict app.

Why and when should I use boost and bury in Depict?

Boosting a collection will increase its visibility, ensuring it appears higher in the search results and product listing pages. Conversely, burying a collection will lower its priority, making it appear less frequently to users.

Some examples of when you might want to use boost and bury include:

  1. Boost:

    1. Promote New Arrivals: Boost newly launched products or collections to ensure they receive maximum exposure during their initial release period.

    2. Seasonal Promotions: During specific seasons or events, boost relevant products or collections to align with the current trends and customer preferences.

    3. Featured Collections: Give extra visibility to special collections, collaborations, or limited editions to drive customer interest and engagement.

    4. High-margin Products: Identify top-performing products and boost them to further increase your revenue potential.

    5. Over-stock Products: Boost overstocked products to sell them faster and clear inventory efficiently, ensuring a well-maintained product mix.

  2. Bury:

    1. Clearance and Sale Items: Bury products that are on clearance or sale to focus on promoting higher-margin items without removing the discounted products entirely.

    2. Out-of-Season Products: Reduce the visibility of out-of-season items to prioritize showcasing the most relevant products to your customers.

    3. Low Inventory Items: Bury products with limited stock to prevent excessive demand that might lead to potential stockouts.

How to Boost and Bury in the Depict App:

  1. Log in to your Depict account and navigate to the "Boost and Bury" section.

  2. Select the collection you want to influence.

  3. Use the "Boost" option to increase the visibility or the "Bury" option to decrease it.

Alternatively, you can boost or bury specific collections directly from the Collections view by clicking on the kebab menu icon for the collection in question:

💡For now, there are only 2 pre-defined boost & bury selections that comes pre-packaged. However, remember that you can always create a new collection with your selection of products to boost or bury. See create a collection.


FAQ

Q: Where and when will the boost and bury rules apply?

A: For now, the rules apply within 30 minutes and apply on all the products in the boosted/buried collection to all product listings (categories and published collection pages) and well as search result pages. We are working on an update to make the rules also apply to recommendations.
