Introduction

The best online retailers stay relevant to their shoppers by highlighting different parts of their catalog through collection pages. This article will show you how to do it through the Depict app.

When should I make collections in Depict?

Collections allow you to tailor your product catalog to your customers' preferences. By grouping products based on specific criteria, you can present shoppers with a more relevant shopping experience and keep your brand and product catalog feel fresh. Some best practices include:

  • Grouping by Theme, Occasion, or Style: Sometimes, customers simply want to find items that suit a particular occasion or style. These could for example be: Wedding, Graduation party, Summer party, Funeral, Work, Smart Casual, or Street. Your imagination sets the limit here! Get creative and stay on top of recent trends, events, and holidays to make sure your customers find exactly what they are looking for.

  • Showcasing New Drops: Depict Collections empowers you to create a dedicated collection for each drop, making it simple for your customers to explore the latest trends and styles as they hit your store.

  • Highlighting Products by Price Range: Customers often have a budget in mind when shopping for clothes. Creating collections based on price ranges allows you to cater to different customer segments effectively. From "Affordable and Stylish" to "Luxury Picks," you can offer a seamless shopping experience that caters to diverse budgets.

  • Promoting Sale Items: Clearance and sale periods are prime opportunities to entice customers with great deals. With Depict Collections, you can create a collection exclusively for discounted items, enabling shoppers to easily browse and find the best bargains.

  • Curating Based on Fabric or Color: Some customers have a strong preference for specific fabric types or colors. Use collections to group clothing items by fabric (e.g., "Silk Elegance" or "Cotton Comfort") or color (e.g., "Timeless Neutrals").

  • Boosting Seasonal Trends: Fashion trends change with each season. Depict Collections allows you to capitalize on these trends by creating seasonal collections that capture the essence of current styles. From "Spring Fling" to "Winter Warmth," you can engage your audience with collections that align with the seasons.

How to create a collection in Depict

The process of configuring custom recommendation rules using the Depict app is outlined in the following step-by-step guide:

  1. Go to app.depict.ai and sign in using your Depict account.

  2. In the left sidebar, navigate to the "Collections" tab.

  3. Click on the "Create new" button in the top right corner to create a new collection.

  4. Give the collection a name, and add products by clicking "Add products".

You have two options that you can use or combine to add products:

    1. searching for product name or SKU,

    2. applying one or more filters, such as Category, Price, or Style.

  5. You can either select many products at once by selecting all, or hand-pick specific products that match your filter criteria.

  6. Once you have selected the products that you wish to include in the collection, press "Save" in the top right corner.

How to merchandise a collection in Depict

Once you have selected the products that you wish to include in the collection, you can visually merchandise the page in three ways:

  1. drag-and-drop a product by clicking-holding-and dragging the product to the desired position,

  2. push a product to the top or bottom or delete it from the collection using the kebab menu on the product cards,

  3. use Depict's visual AI to merchandise products pairwise in a similar or complimentary manner by clicking the "Generate with AI" button.

Depict supports both a card view and a list view when merchandising. You can switch between these two views by clicking the respective icon.

How to publish a collection from Depict to your site

The process may vary slightly depending on the Content Management System (CMS) you are using, but the key concept remains the same: using a query id to link the collection to your CMS.

  1. Create a query id in the Depict app - below the collection title, for example "summer-tights".

2. This Depict created query ID should map to the slug of a page in your CMS.

FAQ

Q: Can I add or remove products from a live collection?

A: Yes. You can always navigate back to a specific collection and add or remove products to a collection.

Q: Are collections auto-updated with new products that match my filter criteria?

A: At the moment, we do not support automated product updates in collections. However, general Boost & Bury rules apply, and if a product goes out of stock, it is pushed to the bottom of a collection.

Q: Can I create a collection without pushing it live?

A: Yes. For instance, if you want to apply a Boost & Bury rule to a specific collection, e.g. "on sale items". You can create a collection for it, leave it unpublished in your CMS, and then boost or bury it in the "Boost & Bury" section. See Boost & Bury.
